Eric Krohel, MST

Mr. Krohel has practiced in the Incentive and Credits area for over 13 years and was one of the first practitioners in this specialization. He developed and managed the Incentives department for a Northeastern-consulting firm during this time and has been involved in incentive projects yielding clients millions of dollars in savings. Mr. Krohel has over 17 years of tax practice experience and prior to consulting, was an auditor with the New Jersey Division of Taxation. He was also an Adjunct Professor for 19 years at Raritan Valley College in the business department. Eric has been published extensively in major professional periodicals such as "MultiState Taxation and Incentives", "State Income Tax Alert", "Expansion Management" and numerous Incentive and Economic Development newsletters. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and an MS in Taxation from Seton Hall University.

 
Gerald Goldberg

Jerry has had a distinguished career in public service. For 25 years he directed the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB), the largest state income tax agency in the country. He was deeply involved in such issues as worldwide combined reporting, the elimination of abusive tax shelter and tax avoidance schemes, and electronic filing. During his tenure, the Franchise Tax Board earned a reputation for excellence in tax administration. Some of the innovations included the development of sophisticated audit, nonfiler, and collection systems that later became the prototypes for systems utilized by other tax departments. Prior to coming to the FTB, Jerry was Director of the Missouri Department of Revenue. In that role he had responsibility for the collection of multiple taxes including sales, income, and motor fuels. Before becoming director, Jerry was on the staff of Ernst & Young where he served as a consultant to numerous state and local governments. Jerry has an MBA from the University of Chicago Business School, and an A.B. in economics from Brandeis University. He is a CPA licensed to practice in California. Jerry is a frequent speaker at tax conferences and has received numerous awards and recognitions. Most recently he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Tax Executives' Institute and both the Saul Braverman Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award for Meritorious Service in State Government Award from the California Society of CPA's. He has also been recognized for his contributions by the American Society of Public Administrators, the Pioneer Institute for Public Policy Research, and the Multistate Tax Commission.

 
Bernard "Bernie" Crowley

Mr. Crowley has over 30 years experience with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue as a Deputy Commissioner- Audit Division, Deputy Commissioner - Inspectional Services Division and Acting Commissioner & Senior Deputy Commissioner. Mr. Crowley conducts field work, relations with staff, vendors and the various States. Bernie has memberships with the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation and the Associated Industries of Massachusetts.

Louis "Lou" Perry

Mr. Perry has over 30 years of corporate tax experience, including over twenty years within the Atlantic City casino industry, serving as Executive Director of Operational Accounting at The Claridge Casino Hotel; Director of Finance/Comptroller with The Atlantic City Conventions and Visitors Authority; Tax Specialist with Resorts Atlantic City; and as a Consultant with Fox, Rothschild, O'Brien & Frankel LLP, an accounting firm with clients in the casino industry. His experience includes all areas of tax research and compliance, dealing with very complicated tax structures, preparing casino tax returns, the administration of a large 401(k) plan and was involved in federal and state tax audits dealing with a variety of tax controversies.

 
Robert E. Anderson

Mr. Anderson was Chairman of the Oklahoma Tax Commission from 1987 until joining THE GELBER ORGANIZATION in 2001. Bob was responsible for the administration, enforcement and collection of virtually all of Oklahoma's state-levied taxes. A substantial portion of his time was dedicated to the Commission's hearing process and the resolution of taxpayer disputes. He is a member of the citizen-legislator task force charged with examining reform of the Oklahoma tax system and also currently serves as Chairman, Board of Directors, of a multi-state Federal Savings and Loan institution. Previously, Bob served seven (7) terms as a State Representative in the Oklahoma House of Representatives and was the Owner/President of a printing company.

Walter Hoffman

Mr. Hoffman is the former Chief of the Sales & Use Tax Auditing Staff for the state of New York. During his 30 years with the state, Walt also held positions of Chief of the Sales Tax Instructions and Interpretations Unit and Supervisor of the Sales and Use Tax Desk Audit Program. He played an integral part in the drafting of New York's Sales and Use Tax Regulations and the writing of its Field Audit Guidelines. Walt has lectured before numerous industry and professional groups and is considered one of the foremost experts on New York state's Sales and Use Tax Law.

Before joining THE GELBER ORGANIZATION in May 2001, Trish had over a 20 year distinguished career with the Litigation Section of the Office of Counsel of the New York Department of Taxation and Finance, ultimately acting as the Department's lead administrative litigation counsel for corporation franchise, sales, and excise taxes. Ms. Brumbaugh's years of experience include cases covering a wide range of issues; from technical questions on the characterization of transactions and application of sales and franchise taxes to constitutional issues arising under the Commerce and the Due Process Clauses. Patricia is a tax attorney licensed in New York and North Carolina, and admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. She has served as an expert panelist at many tax seminars across the country including, most recently, The Chicago Tax Club and The California Tax Policy Conference.

Robert E. Matson

Mr. Matson is the former Deputy Secretary of Revenue for Taxation with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, where he played a major role in administering, rewriting and updating its several tax laws. Bob also served on the Commonwealth's Board of Finance and Revenue, which is the final appeal board in tax disputes before court proceedings. Prior to joining the Commonwealth's Department of Revenue, he was Director of State Government Tax Affairs at Bethlehem Steel, after spending numerous years specializing in state and local taxation for that company. In his capacity as chairman of many prestigious organizations concerned with multi-state and local taxation, Bob has maintained constant communication with Tax Commissioners throughout the country.

Greg Mangel

Mr. Mangel has over 14 years of finance and managerial experience, including over 10 years within the Atlantic City casino industry, serving as a Director of Finance at Resorts Atlantic City. His experience includes a wide variety of areas including compliance with state and federal financial regulatory and tax laws and filing of financial statements. He was also integrally involved in the strategic planning of the facility and provided analyses to senior management for expansions, marketing programs, profit/loss projections, market share, and projects designed to increase operating efficiencies. Mr. Mangel also spent over 2 years marketing, developing strategies, and maintaining client relations for a regional sales tax refund boutique firm. Mr. Mangel's client base was highly concentrated in the gaming industry. Greg has a B.A. in accounting form Marietta College in Marietta, OH.

Mr. Langone has spent 30 plus years with the State of New Jersey's Division of Taxation as a Senior Field Auditor. Before retiring from State employment, Mr. Langone's primary responsibilities were to manage "larger" audits of Fortune 500 Companies. He possesses a B.S. in Accounting from Husson College in Bangor, ME. As a Senior Manager for The Gelber Organization, Mr. Langone provides a unique blend of "state experience" and client relations that positions our clients to comprehend all aspects of sales & use taxes going forward.

As a Senior Field Auditor, Mr. Bachor's primary responsibilities were to conduct and manage audits for Fortune 500 Companies. He is a graduate of St. Peter's College in Jersey City, NJ with a degree in Accounting. As a Senior Manager for The Gelber Organization, Mr. Bachor provides a wealth of experience, conducts Multi-State Sales Tax Reviews and presents alternative solutions for our clients which have resulted in generating significant savings.
